Yesterday my sister told me she was reading a book and she felt like it was changing her life or at least the way she saw everything around her. Curiosity got the best of me and so I asked her if I could read it when she finished. It was around 1am when she came into my room to give me the book. I instantly started to read it and I was only able to stop when it was 4am.
The book is called "The Vow" and to be honest I knew about the movie but I didn't know there was a book with all the story behind it.
I still haven't finished the book but I can tell you I cried most of the time I was reading, not only because of the bad things that happened but also because of the true love they've always shared. It's beautiful how two people from different places somehow managed to end up together in a time where they didn't have the internet and cellphones to make a long distance relationship work out.
Plus it's amazing to see how Kim didn't give up on his love for Krickitt and kept fighting to make her fall in love with him all over again after she lost her memory.
It's these type of relationship that inspires me a lot and that gives me a bit of hope that one day I'll find someone that loves me as much as Kim loves Krickitt.
Now, about the beautiful book:
"Life as Kim and Krickitt Carpenter knew it was shattered beyond recognition on November 24, 1993. Two months after their marriage, a devastating car wreck left Krickitt with a massive head injury and in a coma for weeks.
When she finally awoke, she had no idea who Kim was. With no recollection of their relationship and while Krickitt experienced personality changes common to those who suffer head injuries, Kim realized the woman he had married essentially died in the accident.
And yet, against all odds, but through the common faith in Christ that sustained them, Kim and Krickitt fell in love all over again. Even though Kim stood by Krickitt through the darkest times a husband can ever imagine, he insists, “I’m no hero. I made a vow.”"
What's even more interesting about this is that it is based on a true story, everything that was written actually happened. I can only imagine how hard it might have been for Kim to be forgotten by the person he loved the most.
Can you imagine if the love your life lost every single memory they had about you?
That's why I'm completely blown away by the way Kim stood for the promise he made to love Krickitt. He could have walked away from her, he could have given up, but he didn't because he loved her more than anything.
And nowadays this kind of love is difficult to find, and it's sad to think that if the people my age were confronted with something like this they would probably run away from it.
But after all I highly recommend this book, it's such an inspiring story about true love and about never losing faith in God because He's always there even when we can't see him and He works in mysterious ways.
